The Delta State Chairman of a Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Pastor Gregory Sifo, has told the Community Base Organizations to brace up to their responsibility so as to achieve more results at the healthcare facilities.
Sifo stated this in Asaba during the monthly coordination meeting, which was attended by the various state partners and the CBOs .
He stated that for successes to be recorded in the field, the Community Accountability Team (CAT) of the various CBOs should be ready to make remarkable sacrifices.
He pointed out that the global fund is a child of sacrifice made by Bill Gates and other philanthropist to reduce the burden of various diseases in Africa and other countries of the world.
Also speaking, the State Program Officer of ACOMIN, Sir Austin Uwede, who called for more advocacy to major stakeholders in order to achieve successes, noted that the project is premised in making sure that health service providers are accountable for their actions and also to carry out advocacy to major stakeholders to have a buy in and give their support.
Sir. Uwede stated that the function of ACOMIN was to educate the patients of the drugs that they should pay for and the ones that they should get free of charge from the public healthcare centres.
In their separate remarks, the State Program Manager for Malaria, Ministry of Health, Dr.(Mrs.) Julie Aniah, the Delta State Malaria Program Manager, Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF)Program Manager, in the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency(SPHCDA), Mr. Azubuike Divine, representative of the State Action for the Control of HIV/AIDs (SACA), Mrs. Grace Sifo and Mr. Raymond Emeto of MSH as well as representative of the Society for Family Health, Mrs. Mercy Momoh emphasized the need for the CBOs to show passion and commitment to their work in the facilities.
Momoh stated that her organization was working in 12 LGAs across the three Senatorial Districts, adding that they work closely with the health educators in the local government areas , even as she implored the CBOs to have a sustainability strategy in their job.
On her part , Mrs. Grace Sifo advised the CBOs to take the issue of documentation seriously, reminding them that they were selected according to their strength in their various LGAs where they are working.
Speaking further, Mr. Emeto explained that the majority of the facilities had been stocked with commodities , saying that when malaria in pregnancy is not treated it could lead to the death of the unborn child or the pregnant mother or both .
The representative of DSPHCDA said that many of the PHCs were being renovated, assuring that the issue of staff recruitment for the PHCs would be addressed after the facilities had been given a facelift.
He assured that the Agency would ensure accountability and value for money in disbursing the basic healthcare provision fund that was released by the government.
