The Eko Convention Centre in Lagos was buzzing with electrifying energy on December 26th as it hosted the 24th edition of the annual “Warri Again” comedy and Afro-beats event. Organized by comedian AY Makun.
The star-studded night featured a lineup of Nigeria’s hottest talents, but it was Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy’s surprise appearance and collaboration with Shallipopi that stole the show, sending the packed venue into a frenzy.
The event, renowned for blending top-tier comedy with explosive musical performances, saw artists like Zlatan, Seyi Vibez, and Rudeboy deliver captivating sets. However, the crowd reached a fever pitch when the “African Giant” himself, Burna Boy, unexpectedly joined fast-rising star Shallipopi on stage for a dynamic rendition of their collaborative hit, ‘Laho II’. The unexpected duo’s synergy ignited the audience, solidifying the track’s status as a fan favorite.
Following the powerful collaboration, Burna Boy continued to hold the crowd spellbound with a solo performance of his chart-topping anthems, including ‘Bundle By Bundle’, the energetic ‘It’s Plenty’, and the globally acclaimed ‘Last Last’. His commanding stage presence and signature blend of Afro-beats, dancehall, and reggae left no doubt as to his status as one of Africa’s biggest musical exports.
Beyond the main stage, the event also generated significant buzz from backstage interactions. A lighthearted moment captured Burna Boy sharing laughs with veteran Reggae-dancehall singer Timaya, highlighting the camaraderie among Nigeria’s music elite.
Perhaps the most viral moment of the entire night, however, involved Shallipopi and former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick. A hilarious clip that quickly circulated online showed Shallipopi’s security detail inadvertently blocking Pinnick’s attempt to embrace the artist. The momentary awkwardness was swiftly diffused by Shallipopi, who intervened to ensure Pinnick received his hug. This amusing incident drew thousands of laughs and shares across social media platforms, adding a touch of relatable humor to an otherwise grand affair.
The “Warri Again” event once again proved its mettle as a premier entertainment fixture during Nigeria’s “Detty December” season, bringing together diverse talents and creating unforgettable moments that resonate long after the final curtain call. Burna Boy’s unexpected appearance, coupled with the viral backstage antics, ensured that this year’s edition will be remembered as a true highlight of the festive calendar.
