Chevron Supports Nigerian Content Development

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has said it’s committed to supporting Nigerian Content development by creating jobs for Nigerians and offering contract opportunities across its projects—amounting to an estimated annual average of over $1 billion.

Olusoga Oduselu, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at Nigeria Limited, shared this during the NUJ Media Capacity Building Programme with journalists in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday.

Speaking on his behalf, Saheed Praise Akinbola noted that CNL has trained around 400 journalists since the annual training program began.

“Chevron Nigeria Limited entered into this partnership because we strongly believe in the value of investing in human capital,” he said.

He explained that previous editions of the programme took place in 2023 and 2024 across three key locations—Lagos, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The 2025 training series began earlier in July in Abuja and Lagos.

“We’re excited to expand the programme by partnering with the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. By the end of this year, we’ll have trained over 400 journalists through our media capacity-building initiatives,” he added.

Oduselu also praised the media’s vital role, saying, “As members of the fourth estate, your work in setting the agenda and shaping public opinion is absolutely critical and cannot be overstated.”

He expressed appreciation to the media, saying, “Thank you for the important role you play in covering the oil and gas sector and offering valuable insights into the industry’s complex operations.”

He also assured of continued collaboration, stating, “We remain committed to partnering with the media to support societal development. Part of that commitment includes building the capacity of media professionals to help them carry out their responsibilities more effectively.”

“That’s why CNL launched the Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills (AWARES) programme in partnership with Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos. Since it began in 2014, more than 120 journalists have benefited from it.”

“Through initiatives like AWARES and this current training programme, we’re not only strengthening professional skills but also fostering long-term relationships with our media partners,” he added.
