Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi Elected Amananawei of Tuomo

Burutu Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi has been chosen as the new Amananawei of the Tuomo Community following a fair, peaceful, and orderly voting process that took place today at the Burutu Local Government Secretariat.

Out of 49 delegates who participated in the election, Chief Ebiyemi received 42 votes, while 7 votes were ruled invalid. His main rival, Chief Ebikapaye Agidee, did not attend the election.

He had previously insisted on being declared the winner without a proper election, which is against the Tuomo Constitution that stipulates all candidates must fill out forms and undergo qualification screening before participating in the elections.

The election was initially planned to be held in the Tuomo community but was relocated to Burutu by the Executive Chairman of the Burutu Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Julius Takeme, to ensure a peaceful election amid escalating tensions in the community that had repeatedly threatened the process.

All constitutional regulations governing the Amananawei election were meticulously followed before voting began, including the requirement that all candidates must possess literacy skills.

After the election concluded, Chief Mrs. Georgina Evah, the Vice Chairman of the Council, administered the oath of office and formally inaugurated Chief Arebebe Ebiyemi as the new Amananawei of the Tuomo Community, standing in for the council chairman who was away on official duties.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Ebiyemi expressed his appreciation to the people of Tuomo and committed to fostering peace, unity, and development within the community, while also thanking Chief Takeme’s administration for their efforts in promoting and maintaining peace in the region.
