Community Leaders Raise Alarm Over Ondo Energy Activities in Delta

Community leaders have raised concerns about the clandestine operations of Ondo Energy Resources Limited at the Grangbein Deep “A” project in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Leaders accused the company of sidelining key stakeholders and failing to follow proper community engagement processes, a situation they say is creating tension in the area.

In a statement issued by Dr. Enewaridike Ekanpou, Mr. Paul Tusemone and Chief Aguede Obosu, the group alleged that Ondo moved into the project site with two gunboats on March 8, 2026, without informing the Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area or consulting the affected communities including Oyangbene, Labulosigha and Bilaziya.

He said the project directly impacts many communities and stressed that there should have been meaningful consultation before any work could begin. According to him, the company was earlier advised to engage with stakeholders but failed to do so. Instead, he claims Ondo proceeded with activities at the site without notifying the local council chairman, whom he described as the chief security officer of the area.

Leaders condemned the action and described it as insulting to both the communities and the local government authority. He argued that any activity carried out on the site without proper consultation with stakeholders should be considered invalid. He also stressed that the affected communities should be properly involved before conducting any Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in the area.

According to him, ignoring this process gives rise to the fear that the rights and interests of communities may be ignored. The stakeholders have therefore met with the Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area, Chief Dr. Julius Takeme.
