Compensate Subscribers For Poor Services, NCC Order Telcom

‎The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed Mobile Network Operators to provide compensation to subscribers in areas where network quality is not favourable.

‎In a statement on Sunday, Nnenna Ukoha, the Head of Public Affairs at the Commission, said that affected subscribers will receive airtime credits. The amount of airtime credits they receive is based on how much they spend and where they are located in areas where the service is not working well.

‎Subscribers should not have to deal with the problem when Mobile Network Operators fail to carry out their responsibilities. The NCC said that the compensation will be given as airtime credits. This will be based on the subscriber’s spending habits and where they are in areas with service failures.

‎The NCC made it clear that it’s indeed part of their plan to put subscribers first. They want to make sure that subscribers are treated fairly in Nigeria’s telecommunications system.

‎They said that telecommunications services are very important for the economy, for people to interact with each other and for people to have access to opportunities. When service quality is poor, it affects how productive people are, how businesses work and how much people trust the communications system.

‎NCC told Tower Companies to use any fines they get to improve the infrastructure. This will help make the network work better.

‎”We will keep using rules to make sure that subscribers get treatment, that everything is transparent and that Mobile Network Operators are accountable”.

‎ “Tower Companies have to use money from fines to invest in infrastructure that will make a difference. They have to do this alone, with any penalties that the Nigerian Communications Commission thinks are necessary”.
