Council Unanimously Backs Renaming of Airport Road in Honour of Oborevwori

The Legislative Arm of the Warri South Local Government Council has formally notified the Chairman, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, that it has unanimously approved the renaming of Airport Road in Warri to Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way.

In a letter dated December 10, 2025, and signed by the Clerk, Comr. Affor Godfrey Maku, the House explained that the decision was reached during its plenary session on Tuesday, December 9.

The letter read in part: “With reference to the letter of October 22, 2025, on the above matter, I am directed to inform you that during the plenary of December 9, 2025, the House unanimously resolved that Airport Road be renamed Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way, in recognition of the Governor’s significant contributions to infrastructural and socio-economic development in Warri South and Delta State as a whole.”

It will be recalled that on Monday, October 20, the Warri South Council Chairman, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, announced that the Executive Council had agreed alongside their counterparts in Uvwie Local Government to rename the popular Airport Road to Sheriff Oborevwori Way.
He revealed this during a breakout session of the Warri South Council Executive Committee, which was attended by the Uvwie Council Chairman, Chief Anthony Ofoni.

Chief Ofoni, in his remarks, said: “When my brother, the Chairman of Warri South, Hon. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi, told me about the plan for Airport Road, I was truly pleased. Without his effort, this would not have been possible. I believe God’s hand is in it.”
