Nigerian businessman Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to the sentencing of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu after his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In an Instagram post, he issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that keeping Kanu in detention will cost him massive political support in the South-East as the 2027 elections approach.
Cubana Chief Priest insisted that the South-East’s loyalty to Kanu is so deep that the President will struggle to secure meaningful votes in the region if Kanu remains behind bars. “As long as MNK is in jail, you cannot and will never get up to 10,000 votes in the South-East in 2027,” he wrote.
He also criticised South-East ministers, accusing them of failing to stand up for the region or influence public sentiment.
The socialite went on to call on Imo State governor Hope Uzodimma to play a more active role in pushing for Kanu’s release. He warned that the governor’s achievements and political legacy could be overshadowed if he does not take decisive action.
“Your legacies will be swept under the carpet if you don’t get it right,” he said, urging both Governor Uzodimma and the Presidency to appeal the court ruling.
Cubana Chief Priest stressed that freeing Kanu is essential for restoring political goodwill in the South-East. According to him, “the South-East belongs to MNK,” and failure to address the issue could lead to serious political consequences in the next election cycle.
