Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening healthcare services and improving the wellbeing of his constituents. This followed a meeting at his Abuja office with a high-level delegation from the Livelihood Impact Fund (LIF).
The delegation, led by LIF’s Executive Director, Abigail Steinberg, visited the Senator as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration aimed at building a more sustainable and inclusive healthcare system for communities in Delta Central and other parts of the country.
LIF’s commitment to providing life-enhancing health support — particularly through its Eyeglasses Initiative — closely aligns with Senator Dafinone’s focus on sustainable development and people-centred healthcare. The partnership highlights a shared determination to tackle preventable health issues that directly impact productivity and overall quality of life.
The Livelihood Impact Fund has already made notable contributions to Nigeria’s health sector. As a key partner in the Presidential Initiative on Eyeglasses, also known as Jigi Bola 2.0, LIF facilitated the distribution of 1.3 million free reading glasses across 10 states, including Delta State, within the past year.
In addition to providing eyeglasses, LIF has played a crucial role in strengthening the country’s healthcare framework by supporting the training of more than 2,200 Primary Health Care workers nationwide. These health workers are now equipped to conduct eye screenings and dispense reading glasses at the community level, ensuring sustained and far-reaching impact.
This effort forms part of the National Eye Health Strategic Development Plan (2024–2028), which aims to integrate eye care services into Nigeria’s broader Primary Healthcare system and expand access to essential eye care, particularly for underserved communities.
As part of the engagement, Senator Dafinone also received Dr. Oteri Okolo, National Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme at the Federal Ministry of Health, who joined the delegation. Their discussions centred on practical steps to further enhance healthcare outcomes, especially for residents of Delta Central.
During the meeting, Senator Dafinone stressed that progress for the Urhobo Nation and Delta Central is a shared responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to strategic partnerships that deliver real, measurable benefits to the people — an approach that continues to earn him praise from constituents for his efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
