Hundreds of residents in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State, turned out on Monday for the *Senator Ede Dafinone Free Diabetes Sensitization and Testing Medical Outreach*. The event is part of a larger health initiative covering all eight LGAs in the Delta Central Senatorial District.
Organized in partnership with the National Health Fellows and backed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the outreach offered free health services including medical check-ups, testing, and consultations.
Held at the Orhuwhorhun Primary Health Centre in Udu, participants received screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and tuberculosis, as well as eye exams, reading glasses, and essential medications.
Mr. Daniel Odien, a liaison officer for Senator Dafinone in Udu LGA, praised the senator for his dedication to improving access to healthcare in the Udu Kingdom. He said, “We’re truly grateful for this medical outreach. A big thank you to Senator Ede Dafinone for sponsoring this program—it has made a real difference in people’s lives today and helped restore their health. May God bless our distinguished senator.”
Mr. Darlington Ehriejakor, Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President and ward coordinator for Senator Ede Dafinone, also praised the initiative. He expressed his appreciation, saying, “We’re really happy about this medical outreach. Our thanks go to Senator Ede Dafinone and his team for putting together such a thoughtful program that’s making a real impact on the lives of people in Udu and surrounding areas. We encourage him to keep doing more for the community, and we pray that God gives him the strength and resources to continue this good work. I also want to congratulate him in advance.”
Arc. Alex Emuobor Oniomughare, Assistant Liaison Officer to Senator Dafinone, highlighted the significance of the outreach, especially for the elderly. He said, “People are feeling uplifted because opportunities like this don’t come often. I pray that God gives Senator Dafinone the means to make this an annual event.”
Participants at the outreach expressed heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing how important the initiative was in tackling health issues that many often ignore due to lack of funds.
One attendee, Madam Edirin Ararirhe, shared her story: “As soon as I heard about this program, I quickly came because I wasn’t feeling well and didn’t know what was wrong. After the check-up, they told me I had high blood pressure and gave me the care I needed. I’m so thankful, and I pray that God continues to bless those behind this initiative.”
She added, “I’m really happy—so many lives have been lost because of conditions like this. Some people even believe it’s caused by witchcraft, not realizing it’s a medical issue. I sincerely thank Senator Ede Dafinone for making this happen and I’m appealing for this to become a yearly event, especially for those who can’t afford to go to the hospital.”
Another attendee, Mrs. Precious Egbe, expressed her gratitude to the medical team and the care she received. She said, “I really appreciate the organisers for putting this together. I came for a check-up, and everything was smooth and well-coordinated. I pray that God continues to bless them so they can keep offering these kinds of humanitarian services.”
Senator Ede Dafinone’s free medical outreach was widely regarded as a vital initiative that helped raise health awareness and improve the well-being of people in Delta Central. Many participants called for the programme to be held regularly.
