Deaconess Oborevwori raises awareness on childhood Tuberculosis, urges comprehensive test

In commemoration of the National Childhood Tuberculosis Testing Week, wife of the Delta State Governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori has highlighted the importance of testing and treating childhood tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis, an airborne disease that can affect anyone regardless of age or social economic status, often manifests as a strong cough.

While Delta State has various testing modalities, diagnosing tuberculosis in children remains challenging compared to adults.

To address this, the state’s health workers, supported by the World Health Organization (W.H.O) and other implementing partners, will conduct awareness campaigns and screenings in schools and communities during the National Childhood Tuberculosis Testing Week, starting on Monday, May 27th.

Deaconess Oborevwori urges parents to be vigilant and seek medical attention if their children exhibit symptoms such as a persistent cough for two weeks or more, fever, or weight loss.

She emphasized that testing and treatment for tuberculosis are completely free in Delta State.

She said, “Tuberculosis is treatable and curable, the life of our children matters, and it is our duty as parents to ensure their health and well-being. Let us take advantage of this opportunity to get our children tested and treated if necessary.”

The awareness campaign aims to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of early detection and treatment of childhood tuberculosis, ultimately reducing the incidence of the disease in Delta State.
