Deaconess Oborevwori urges Delta women to foster unity, love at #IWD2025 celebration

Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori has urged Delta women to foster unity and love amongst themselves and their communities to achieve a more empowered society.

Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori made the call while speaking on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration titled, “Accelerate Action”, on Friday, at the Dome event center, Asaba Delta State.

She stated that the theme for this year’s celebration emphasizes the need to speed up efforts to end barriers that prevent gender equality.

Deaconess Oborevwori said, “So it is clear that we are specially and wonderfully made; a rare breed, full of strength and vitality, elegant, powerful and influential.”

The First Lady further encouraged the women to prioritize their health, lead by example, and encourage and love one another.

The keynote speaker, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, who represents Oshimili South State constituency, spoke on the history of women’s participation in the affairs of communities and highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and their role in shaping the future of the state.

While welcoming the women at the occasion, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr. Pat Ajudua, commended Deaconess Oborevwori for being resolute and committed to the affairs of women in the state.

The event featured a trade fair with 50 vendors from across the 25 local government areas of the state, showcasing food, agricultural produce, and traditional wears. Deaconess Oborevwori led guests in purchasing items from the women.

The women applauded the inclusive programs of Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori and her foundation, they also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s giant strides in infrastructural development across the State.

Awards were given for the best shop, with Warri North emerging first, and Okpe taking second position. Aniocha South Local Government Area won the award for the best dressed.
