DELSU SUG Election: Jemison Matthias emerges President-elect unopposed

Jemison Matthias, a student of Pharmacy will pilot the affairs of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) in Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.

Dean of Students of the institution, Professor Maxwell Iwegbue, disclosed this while announcing the election results on Wednesday at Site III.

In addition, Comrade Adoh Lilian Timi received a total of 2335 votes to emerge as the union’s Vice President of Operations.

Others who have been elected to lead the union are Tachare Prosper, Secretary General; Osho Omonuwa Joshua, Director of Finance; Iweta Michael Mine, Director of Information and Opia Chizonum Paul, Director of Socials

Speaking to Oasis Magazine, some students of the university, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed concerns over the omission of their names from the accredited list which made them ineligible to vote, saying the institution infringed on their rights to vote.

Meanwhile, while addressing the students, Comr. Okupa Caleb Ogagaoghene, the outgoing SUG President, lamented on how there was tension in the community of students because many were willing to vote but their names were omitted from the accredited list of voters.
