In a show of unity and political alignment, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Sunday endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The resolution followed a unanimous vote of confidence passed during a high-powered APC stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba.
The meeting drew together an array of political figures including serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, party executives, and other prominent leaders from across Delta’s three senatorial zones.
The motion for the confidence vote was tabled by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei.
Keyamo lauded President Tinubu’s “bold economic reforms and transformative leadership,” emphasizing that the removal of fuel subsidy had freed critical resources for infrastructural investments. He cited the President’s approval of $1 billion for the rehabilitation of the Warri Port and other national projects as evidence of prudent governance.
He also praised Governor Oborevwori’s infrastructural drive and his commitment to inclusive governance, urging members to rally behind both leaders as symbols of progress and unity.
Governor Oborevwori, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the APC for the endorsement, promising to intensify his developmental agenda across the state. “The confidence reposed in us is deeply appreciated. Delta APC is stronger than ever, and before the end of November, more governors will join us,” he said.
The Governor warned against disloyalty within party ranks, stressing that only those who genuinely worked for the APC during the last elections would be rewarded. “Loyalty will be our badge of honor in 2027,” he declared.
Highlighting key infrastructural strides, Oborevwori referenced ongoing major projects including the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover, ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the imminent Warri/Sapele Road rehabilitation assuring that contractors are fully mobilized and payments remain prompt due to prudent resource management.
Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, described the April 28, 2025 mass defection into the APC as “a defining moment in Delta’s political history.” He commended both Tinubu and Oborevwori for stabilizing the economy and uniting the party, noting that the APC was now “more cohesive, stronger, and poised for victory.”
In his address, APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the party as “unstoppable,” insisting that the Governor’s performance has rendered opposition futile.
Echoing this sentiment, Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Ned Nwoko, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas jointly declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031.”
Other key leaders, including Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and Senator James Manager, reaffirmed their loyalty to the President and Governor, pledging massive support in the forthcoming elections.
ALGON representative Hon. Dagidi Andaye and Women Leader Hon. Stella Okotete pledged the commitment of council chairmen and women across the state to the party’s success, while Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, assured legislative backing for the Governor’s MORE Agenda.
The meeting concluded on a high note of celebration and solidarity, with stakeholders pledging to deliver a landslide victory for President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori in 2027.
