Delta APC Elects New Chairman, Prepares Ahead of 2027 Election

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urging the party’s leadership to begin early preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Arenyeka emerged through a consensus arrangement at the party’s State Congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba. Other members of the new State Working Committee include Elder Moses Iduh, Deputy Chairman, and Chief Efe Uko, State Secretary.

Zonal chairmen were also selected for Delta Central, South and North, alongside officers for organising, publicity, women and youth leadership positions.

Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba announced the new executives after delegates affirmed the consensus list, noting that the process followed party guidelines.

Before the election, a motion was moved for the dissolution of the outgoing executive council, paving the way for the new leadership.

Addressing party members, Governor Oborevwori thanked the former executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for managing the party during what he described as a period of political transition in the state.

He said the peaceful conduct of the ward, local government and state congresses reflected cooperation among members, adding that unity would be critical going into the next election cycle.

The governor urged the new leadership to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, maintain regular engagement with members and focus on expanding the party’s support base.

He emphasised that the APC in Delta must work towards winning elective positions across the board in 2027, including delivering strong support for President Bola Tinubu.

In his remarks, the immediate past chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, called for humility and teamwork, reminding members that party success depends on collective effort rather than individual ambition.

In his acceptance speech, Arenyeka thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence placed in him, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with leading the party at a crucial political period.

He pledged to promote internal unity, transparency and inclusiveness, assuring members that the new executive would work to strengthen the party’s structure across the state.

The congress attracted party stakeholders from across Delta State, marking the beginning of a new leadership phase for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
