Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Delta North have renewed their call for the creation of Anioma State, urging the National Assembly to address what they described as a longstanding injustice in Nigeria’s state structure, particularly in the South-East.
The group emphasized that granting statehood to Anioma is long overdue and crucial to correcting the geopolitical imbalance that currently leaves the South-East with only five states.
In a letter dated November 3, 2025, signed by its Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, the APC Delta North Senatorial District stated that the push for Anioma State reflects the collective and unified position of the people of Delta North.
“The APC Delta North Senatorial District is firmly and wholeheartedly in support of the creation of Anioma State. Bringing Anioma State to fruition is not only a matter of justice but also of strategic importance for the federation,”Eluaka stated. He emphasized that there was unanimous support across the senatorial district, noting that the push for statehood reflects the long-held aspirations of the Anioma people, rooted in their historical and cultural identity.
Eluaka also praised Senator Ned Nwoko for leading the recent legislative effort toward Anioma State, highlighting that his bill, aimed at addressing the South-East’s numerical disadvantage in state allocation, has given the movement fresh momentum.
He further described the Anioma state proposal as the most comprehensive state-creation bill currently before the National Assembly, noting that it enjoys widespread national support and legitimacy.
Reflecting on the hardships faced by the Anioma people during the civil war due to their perceived Igbo identity, Eluaka said that establishing the state would serve as both an act of healing and historical justice. He called on the National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu to see the proposal as a unifying national initiative that demonstrates the Senate’s responsiveness to the aspirations of Nigerians.
“The creation of Anioma State will be both a matter of justice and a clear demonstration of the National Assembly’s commitment to equity and inclusion,” Eluaka added.
