Delta Assembly, Oborevwori’s Govt to Sustain Cordial Ties in 2026 – Guwor

The Delta State House of Assembly has pledged to maintain its harmonious and mutually respectful working relationship with the executive arm under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori throughout 2026, in a bid to fast-track development and deepen good governance across the state.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Dennis Emomotimi Guwor gave the assurance on Tuesday when he formally welcomed lawmakers back to plenary at the resumption of sitting after the Christmas and New Year recess.

In a rousing address to mark the opening of legislative business for the year, Guwor extended warm New Year felicitations to his colleagues, their families and the people of Delta State, while commending the 8th Assembly for its impressive scorecard so far.

“By the grace of God, this House has remained steadfast in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the Speaker declared.

“We have passed people-oriented bills, adopted critical resolutions, and carried out effective oversight functions that have contributed meaningfully to improved governance, transparency and accountability in the state.”

He spotlighted the proactive engagement of House committees with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enforce compliance with budgetary provisions and ensure judicious use of public resources.

Guwor reserved special praise for Governor Oborevwori, describing his administration as one marked by “efficient and effective leadership, purposeful governance and an unwavering commitment to the development of Delta State.”

He cited the recent groundbreaking of the Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli North as a striking symbol of the governor’s infrastructure drive, noting that Oborevwori’s people-centred policies and prudent resource management have continued to deliver visible dividends in all three senatorial districts.

Reaffirming the strong partnership between the two arms of government, the Speaker said: “This Honourable House acknowledges the harmonious working relationship that exists between the Legislature and the Executive, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision for a stronger and prosperous Delta State. We assure His Excellency of our continued support through sound legislation and constructive oversight, in the best interest of our people.”

Looking ahead, Guwor outlined the Assembly’s key priorities for the year, which include the passage of laws to stimulate economic growth, strengthen peace and security, promote social welfare, empower youth, and accelerate infrastructural development.

“We will also intensify our oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of government policies and programmes,” he added.

The Speaker charged his colleagues to approach the remaining segment of the third session with fresh vigour, unity of purpose and total commitment to excellence, urging them to conduct robust yet respectful debates and let every decision be guided solely by the collective interest of Deltans.
