Delta Assembly Speaker, Guwor assures parliamentary workers on nationwide strike

The National Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has expressed the hope that issues that led to the ongoing strike by the Parliamentary Staff Associations of Nigeria, PASAN, nationwide, would soon be resolved.

Rt. Hon. Guwor via a telephone chat, said critical stakeholders, including the leadership of Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures and the Governors Forum are on top of the matter.

Guwor who is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, explained that the target is to find amicable and lasting solution to the impasse.

He stated that the 36 State Houses of Assembly are not happy that they are not holding their plenary as a result of the strike and expressed optimism of quick resolution of the contending issues.

“The leadership of the State Houses of Assembly are not happy over the ongoing industrial action by the parliamentary workers. You can observed that all through last week we could not sit because of the strike. We are not happy that we can not sit to carry out our legislative functions.

“However, the leadership of Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures is not relenting in seeking amicable resolution to the problem. We have been meeting for the past three days on the issue. I know the Governor’s Forum is also on it.

“What matters most is lasting solution to the impasse. We believe that the leadership of PASAN may also not want to unnecessarily prolong the strike. So it is our hope that the strike will be called off soon”, Guwor stated.
