Delta Assembly Vows People-Centric Laws, Oversight in 2026 – CPS

The Delta State House of Assembly is set to resume plenary sessions soon after the yuletide break, with promises of enhanced people-oriented governance in 2026.

In a statement on the legislature’s outlook for the new year, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke highlighted the 8th Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, aims to strengthen its focus on impactful lawmaking, rigorous oversight, and collaborative partnerships with the executive and stakeholders to drive state development.

He noted that the holiday recess allowed lawmakers to engage constituents, assess policy needs, and address socio-economic challenges. “As plenary resumes, the Assembly is poised to translate these engagements into concrete legislative actions tackling economic growth, job creation, security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare,” Nwaeke said.

Key priorities include passing bills to bolster institutions, promote transparency, and improve service delivery. “Legislative interventions to boost internally generated revenue, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and foster an investment-friendly environment will feature prominently,” he added.

Under Guwor’s leadership, oversight remains central to ensuring accountability in policy execution. “Oversight is crucial for judicious use of public resources and delivering tangible benefits to citizens,” Nwaeke emphasized.

He stressed the importance of harmonious relations with the executive while upholding constitutional independence, noting such synergy aids timely bill passage and development implementation.

Nwaeke also underscored inclusivity, with increased stakeholder involvement, including the media, to align laws with societal aspirations. As National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers, Guwor is expected to inspire diligence among members.

“Deltans expect leadership and solutions from the Assembly. With renewed vigor and purposeful leadership, 2026 promises a productive legislature and prosperous Delta,” Nwaeke concluded.
