As the world marks World Statistics Day, Deltans are being encouraged to provide accurate and truthful information to statisticians, researchers, and data users.
This cooperation, officials say, is crucial for the government to access high-quality data needed for informed decision-making and sustainable development.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Delta State Director of Statistics, Nkechi Maduemezie, under the State Ministry of Economic Planning and shared by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Ese Obote-Ogwu the theme for this year’s observance is *“Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”*
The statement emphasized the importance of public support in the work of statisticians, noting that their efforts in gathering and analyzing reliable data contribute significantly to improving lives both locally and globally.
World Statistics Day, celebrated every five years, was established by the United Nations Statistical Commission on October 10, 2010. In that inaugural year, 103 countries observed their own National Statistics Day, while 51 African nations marked African Statistics Day on November 18.
“Statisticians around the world are recognized for the essential role they play in shaping decisions at every level—from local communities to international policy,” the statement said. “Without quality statistics, building a sustainable future would be nearly impossible.”
