Delta Chef, Rita Asuquo Set to Cook Delta’s Largest Banga Soup for 2,000 in Warri Unity Event

Warri is set to host a vibrant cultural celebration as renowned culinary enthusiast Chef Rita Asuquo launches an ambitious cooking showcase aimed at preparing the largest pot of Banga Soup ever attempted in Delta State.

Scheduled for November 27 at Estate Roundabout, the event is designed to feed at least 2,000 people while promoting unity, peace, and cultural pride among residents.

Branded as the Unity Pot of Banga Soup, the initiative celebrates one of Delta’s most iconic delicacies, widely cherished across ethnic lines.

Chef Asuquo said the motivation behind the mega pot was to create an atmosphere of togetherness at a time when communities need stronger social bonds.

“Banga Soup is a dish that unites us all,” she said. “Cooking it together, eating together, and celebrating together is a powerful way to strengthen harmony and friendship among our people.”

The gathering is expected to draw food lovers, cultural enthusiasts, families, and community leaders. Organisers say the event will feature a live-cooking setup, showcasing traditional preparation methods, local spices, and the communal spirit that defines Delta cuisine.

Security agencies have been fully briefed, with assurances that the venue will be well-coordinated and secure to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all participants. Traffic control measures are also being put in place to manage the large crowd anticipated.

Beyond the culinary spectacle, the Unity Pot event doubles as a cultural statement reinforcing shared identity and celebrating Delta’s heritage through food.
Mrs. Asuquo encouraged residents across the state to participate, emphasising the symbolic value of sharing a meal prepared in unity.

“Let’s cook together, eat together, and celebrate our culture in peace and unity,” she urged.

The historic pot of Banga Soup is expected to set a benchmark for community-driven cultural events in Delta State.
