The Delta State Police Command has assured the family of late Justice Ifeoma Okogwu that those responsible for her murder will be brought to justice. Her body was found on November 24 in her home in Asaba.
The assurance was given in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright.
According to the statement, the DPO of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, received a distress call from the judge’s brother, who discovered her lifeless body in the sitting room with her hands, legs, and mouth tied.
The DPO immediately led officers to the residence, where the body was removed and taken to the mortuary for an autopsy. One suspect, Lucky Matthew, has been arrested, while the main suspect, Godwin Vanem, is still on the run.
SP Bright added that, following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide Section) for a thorough and discreet investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Vanem is strongly suspected to have carried out the crime before fleeing the apartment. A manhunt for him is already underway.
The Commissioner of Police has extended his condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
The Command also urged anyone with useful information that could help the investigation to contact the police through any of these emergency numbers:
