Delta Commissioner Wins African Leadership Prize

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr. Reuben Izeze, has received the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence, recognizing his significant contributions to infrastructure development and public service in Nigeria.

The award was announced at the 2025 Grow Africa Leadership Summit in Accra, Ghana, which honors individuals who have shown remarkable leadership, innovation, and impact in promoting socio-economic growth throughout Africa.

Izeze was chosen through a thorough nomination and selection process that involved leaders from various sectors across Africa.

During a presentation at Izeze’s office in Asaba on Monday, Mr. Uzim Temple, President of the Grow Africa Youth Initiative, commended Izeze for his transformative efforts in Delta State, highlighting the major infrastructure projects he oversaw, effective governance practices, and his steadfast dedication to sustainable development as the main reasons for receiving the award.

He stated, “Notably, his initiatives in expanding road networks, improving project execution, and advocating for youth employment in public works were cited as exemplary.

“Today we recognize you for your diligence and commitment to community development and support for the youth, along with your remarkable administrative skills and selfless leadership principles, as well as your initiatives in educational development through bursary awards.”

After accepting the award, the commissioner dedicated the recognition to the citizens of Delta State and the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

This award reflects not only my efforts but also what committed governance and a shared vision can accomplish. I extend my gratitude to the Grow Africa Youth Initiative and the selection committee for this honor, and I continue to pledge my dedication to creating a brighter future for our community,” he expressed.

The Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence honors the legendary Pan-Africanist and Ghana’s first President and is considered one of the continent’s most prestigious awards for leadership in public service and development.

Previous winners include former heads of state, skilled professionals, and visionary leaders from across Africa who have contributed to the continent’s dedication to home-grown solutions and exemplary leadership.
