Delta EXCO Approves Over ₦400bn Projects Across Key Sectors

The Delta State Executive Council has approved projects and programmes valued at more than ₦400 billion across various sectors of the state’s economy, in a move aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and improving public services.

The approvals were made during an Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Asaba, and presided over by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori. Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the council approved over fifty road projects covering both riverine and upland communities across the state.

Aniagwu also disclosed that the council approved the sum of ₦1.5 billion for the second phase of the Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) programme, which will be implemented by the Ministry of Economic Planning. According to him, the initiative is expected to strengthen economic resilience and support vulnerable communities across the state.

In addition, the commissioner said the state government approved ₦34 billion for the establishment of modern police divisions and Special Protection Units in all the 25 local government areas of the state. The move, he noted, is part of the state’s effort to align with the proposed state policing initiative by the federal government.

The council also approved the construction of nine hostels for male and female students in state-owned tertiary institutions to address the accommodation deficit faced by students.

Ohwovoriole added that the council also approved the construction of ten residential quarters for judges, with five to be located in Osubi and the remaining five in Asaba. Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, whose ministry will supervise the housing projects, assured that the state government would ensure that all approved projects are executed to high standards and that residents of the state receive value for money.

In the area of power supply, the Executive Council approved ₦5 billion for the Rural Electrification Agency to boost electricity access in underserved communities across Delta State. The approvals form part of the Oborevwori administration’s broader strategy to expand infrastructure, strengthen security, improve education facilities, and enhance judicial services across the state.
