Delta Expands D-CARES Initiative to more Farmers, Distributes Agricultural Input in Okpe, Uvwie LGAs

The Delta State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen food security and rural livelihoods with fresh distributions of agricultural inputs to farmers in Okpe and Uvwie Local Government Areas.

At the events, held in Evwriyen Community, Okpe LGA, and Ekpan, Uvwie LGA, over the weekend, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny A. Ekedayen, represented Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in handing over fertilizers, seeds, and farm tools to beneficiaries under the Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) program.

Addressing farmers, Ekedayen said the initiative reflects Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity, reducing rural poverty, and enhancing food sufficiency.

He noted that since 2024, more than 6,000 farmers have benefited from the scheme, which provides direct support to smallholders struggling with rising input costs and climate challenges.

“The D-CARES program is more than just distribution; it is an investment in our farmers, our communities, and the future of food security in Delta State,” Ekedayen remarked.

The commissioner highlighted that earlier this year, 140 farmers in Okpe had received support, and the current tranche further expands the reach of the intervention.

Similar progress, he added, is being recorded across all senatorial districts.
Farmers at both venues welcomed the gesture with excitement, describing it as timely relief that will improve crop yields and household income.

Group photographs captured smiling beneficiaries clutching bags of fertilizer and seeds, underscoring the enthusiasm generated by the initiative.

Officials assured that the program will continue to prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, particularly targeting Fadama farmers and other vulnerable groups.

With the dual distribution in Okpe and Uvwie, the Oborevwori administration reaffirmed its resolve to align grassroots development with the state’s broader economic growth agenda.
