President Generals and community leaders from Delta North Senatorial District have been charged to take the lead in promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development across their various communities.
This call was made by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba while declaring open a three-day seminar organized for community leaders from the district. The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, commended the Office of the Special Adviser on Community Development for initiating the programme.
Governor Oborevwori said the seminar would enable President Generals better understand their responsibilities and identify strategic ways to contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of their localities. He described them as vital stakeholders in maintaining peace in Delta State and urged them to uphold accountability, transparency, objectivity, and inclusivity in their leadership roles.
He assured that his administration remains committed to working with all segments of society to deliver comprehensive development under the MORE Agenda.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Dr. Toyin Agbolayah, reiterated the central role of communities in actualizing the Governor’s MORE Agenda. He encouraged community leaders to prioritize collective development above personal interests, expressing gratitude to the Governor for his support in sustaining peace and security across the state.
Also speaking, the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa—represented by former legislator Hon. Anthony Elekokwuri—highlighted the importance of unity in a culturally diverse state like Delta. He urged community leaders to work collaboratively on key issues that affect their people.
Chairman of the Delta State Forum of Presidents-General, Prince Igwe Nzekwe, reaffirmed the Forum’s support for the MORE Agenda and noted that the seminar would promote stronger cooperation among communities in Delta North.

One of the key presentations at the seminar was a lecture titled “Building Stronger Communities Through Inclusive Leadership and Strategic Collaboration,” delivered by Prof. Hillary Owuoma of Delta State University, Abraka, and represented by Dr. Gideon Isika. The lecture emphasized the pivotal role of President Generals and clan leaders as drivers of the MORE Agenda, urging them to be proactive in promoting development at the grassroots.
As part of the programme, Dr. Agbolayah and other top officials in the Community Development Office paid a solidarity visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, at his palace.
The Asagba advised the leaders to work closely with traditional rulers to foster peace and development, stressing that synergy between both institutions is essential for community progress.
The three-day seminar continues with sessions focused on leadership, conflict resolution, and community-driven development initiatives.
