Delta Government Clarifies Civil Service Dress Code, Screening Exercise, and Rumored Disputes

The Delta State Government has addressed recent concerns over the civil service dress code directive, the ongoing staff screening exercise, and alleged reports of disagreements among members of the State Executive Council.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the government’s guidelines on civil service attire were in line with global corporate standards.

 He explained that as representatives of the state, civil servants are expected to dress in ways that reflect professionalism and project a positive image of government.

Aniagwu emphasized that the screening of civil servants was not intended as a witch-hunt but rather to safeguard the integrity of the service.

According to him, the exercise would help detect issues such as age falsification, thereby creating opportunities for younger entrants into the workforce. “This exercise is to ensure credibility and sustainability within the service structure,” he stated.

Addressing circulating reports of internal rifts within the state cabinet, the Commissioner dismissed such claims as baseless and politically motivated.

He described them as attempts to discredit Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections. Aniagwu called on media outlets to fact-check stories before publication, stressing that misinformation undermines public trust and damages institutions.

On the Governor’s recent trade and investment mission to Brazil, Aniagwu revealed that Delta State secured valuable partnerships expected to yield long-term benefits. He assured residents that the outcomes of these engagements would soon translate into visible economic and developmental gains.

Reaffirming the government’s priorities, Aniagwu said transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery remain central to the administration’s MORE Agenda.

He urged civil servants and the public to support ongoing reforms designed to strengthen institutions and accelerate growth across the state.
