The Delta State Government has released ₦458 million in relief support to 1,231 residents affected by the April 15, 2025 windstorm that ravaged Ughoton, Ugbokodo and Jeddo communities in Okpe Local Government Area.
The financial intervention forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to assist disaster-hit families and reinforce its welfare-driven development priorities.
Representing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the presentation ceremony, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Etacherure Ejiro Terry, said the gesture reflects the administration’s resolve to stand with vulnerable citizens during times of distress.
He explained that the support was not intended as compensation, but as an expression of solidarity and humanitarian concern, especially for families whose homes and livelihoods were severely disrupted.
According to him, the disbursement aligns with the governor’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises social welfare, community resilience and rapid response to emergencies. Some beneficiaries reportedly received as much as ₦1.5 million depending on their level of loss and verified needs.
Victims Praise Government’s Timely Intervention Residents who received the financial aid expressed deep appreciation for the swift action taken by the state government.
Many noted that the intervention came at a crucial time, following devastating property damage that left families struggling to rebuild. Community members also commended state authorities for complementing an earlier round of relief materials distributed through a partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The disbursement marks a continuation of Delta State’s expanded disaster-response framework, aimed at strengthening preparedness while ensuring that communities facing natural disruptions receive prompt and tangible support. Authorities reaffirmed that the state will maintain open channels with affected families as rebuilding progresses.
