Delta Government Empowers 320 Women with ₦150,000 Business Grants Under MORE Cap-Up Programme

In a major stride toward women’s economic empowerment and inclusive growth, the Delta State Government, through the Office of the First Lady, Her Excellency Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, in partnership with the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DEMSMEDA), has disbursed business grants to 320 women entrepreneurs across the state.

The beneficiaries, each receiving ₦150,000, were presented with their grants during the MORE Cap-Up Programme Disbursement Ceremony held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

The initiative is part of the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, which emphasizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Speaking at the event, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori described the programme as a bold step toward boosting entrepreneurship among women, particularly those in rural communities who form the backbone of the informal economy.

She emphasized that empowering women financially not only transforms families but also strengthens local economies and drives community development.

According to the Executive Secretary/CEO of DEMSMEDA, Dr. Godwin Adolor, the grant disbursement was accompanied by capacity-building sessions to equip beneficiaries with the skills needed to manage and grow their businesses sustainably.

He reiterated that the programme’s focus extends beyond financial support to include mentorship, innovation, and accountability.

He noted that the initiative reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to bridging economic gaps, reducing poverty, and expanding access to opportunities for women in all three senatorial districts of Delta State.

The ceremony drew participants from various sectors, including fashion, agribusiness, catering, crafts, and services — marking another significant step in Delta’s drive to empower women, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen grassroots development across the state.
