The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has announced that the state government is aiming to raise ₦100 billion in the first phase of its initiative to strengthen the operations of security agencies through the State Security Trust Fund.
Speaking in Asaba during the Orientation Panorama Platform, a public enlightenment program on Voice of Delta Radio, Dr. Oghenesivbe said that while Delta State remains safe for investment, tourism, and other socio-economic activities, there is still a need to further improve peace and security in line with the “Renewed Hope for MORE” agenda of the state government.
He praised Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and the management of Tantita Security Services Ltd., for their ₦10 billion donation to the State Security Trust Fund, describing it as a remarkable act of patriotism and a strong example of corporate social responsibility. According to him, the contribution would significantly support government efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
Dr. Oghenesivbe encouraged other corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to follow Tantita’s example by supporting the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative aimed at improving the capacity of security agencies, with the goal of achieving the ₦100 billion target.
He also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing security since assuming office, noting that the governor has provided operational vehicles, logistics, and other essential support to security agencies. He added that 0.5% of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is allocated monthly to the Security Trust Fund.
The DG explained that the law establishing the Delta State Security Trust Fund was passed in 2013 to create a legal framework for public-private collaboration in funding and improving security operations. The fund is designed to mobilize and manage resources to equip security agencies with modern technology, training, and facilities to combat crime and enhance public safety.
Dr. Oghenesivbe also cited Governor Oborevwori’s earlier remarks at the fund’s launch, where he said the initiative would focus on acquiring surveillance equipment, operational vehicles, and communication tools, as well as supporting the training of security personnel and community vigilante groups across the 25 local government areas.
He further commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and his team for their impressive efforts in fighting crime, noting their success in making arrests and recovering large quantities of illegal weapons. He also praised the heads of other security agencies for their continuous work in keeping Delta State safe and secure.
