Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the projects being commissioned across various local government areas as “life-changing interventions” touching multiple key sectors.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, made this statement yesterday during the commissioning of 19 transformative projects in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
Governor Oborevwori praised the projects, highlighting their expected impact on economic growth, security, health, education, agriculture, and rural development. He noted that the achievements in Aniocha South under the leadership of Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike reflect what is possible when local administration aligns closely with the vision of the state government.
“To complete 19 significant projects between July 2024 and today is no small achievement,” the governor said. “It shows leadership that is prudent with resources, focused on the people, and guided by the fear of God. Pastor Jude, your performance has validated our confidence in local government autonomy and effectiveness.”
The governor highlighted several key initiatives, including the construction and renovation of hundreds of stalls at Afor Market (Ogwashi-Uku), Nkwo Market (Nsukwa), Olie Market (Ubulu-Okiti), and Isheagu Market, which are expected to stimulate the local economy. He also noted improvements in infrastructure such as the paving of the Central Motor Park in Ogwashi-Uku, making commerce easier and more dignified for traders.
Security, Governor Oborevwori emphasized, is essential for development. Upgrades include the transformation of Ubulu-Uku Police Post into a full Divisional Headquarters, the donation of vehicles, and provision of 33 motorcycles to local vigilantes, ensuring that farmers and traders can go about their work without fear.
On health and education, the governor remarked that the renovation and equipping of Ubulu-Uku General Hospital, along with medical outreach programs across all 11 wards, ensures that residents have access to healthcare. Likewise, the new classrooms at Ishe Primary School (Ewulu) and Etiti-Amaka Primary School (Ubulu-Uno) provide a better learning environment for children.
He also commended the empowerment of 100 verified farmers with farming implements and N100,000 each, noting that food security is essential for the wellbeing of the state. Additionally, projects such as water reticulation in Ubulu-Uno and the installation of over 200 solar streetlights in Ubulu-Uku demonstrate a local government leadership that understands and responds to the diverse needs of its people.
The governor urged residents to safeguard the projects from vandalism, support security agencies, and maintain peace, emphasizing, “These projects belong to you. Only in an atmosphere of peace can we achieve even more.”
Earlier, Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, said the commissioned projects are aligned with the pillars of the MORE Agenda, which focuses on meaningful development, enhancing peace and security, and creating jobs for all.
Chukwunwike highlighted some of the initiatives, including 40 lock-up stalls at Afor Market, the Police Tactical Unit building, upgraded Police Post at Ubulu-Uku, 171 open stalls at Nkwo Market, and a three-bedroom Matron’s quarters at Adonte, among others. He stressed that vibrant markets are essential for economic growth and emphasized his administration’s deliberate investment in healthcare infrastructure as a foundation for community development.
