Delta Gov’s aide, Amechi, sues for peace in Ndokwaland

Special Adviser to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Investment, Chief Tony Amechi has appealed for calm among the people of Ukwani and Ndoshimili in Ndokwaland, Delta State, in light of plans to stage a protest over persistent electricity outages in the region.

In a statement released on Monday, Chief Amechi acknowledged the frustrations of residents in Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, and Ukwani Local Government Areas, who have endured prolonged power outages that have crippled businesses and livelihoods. He affirmed that while the youth have a constitutional right to protest, he urged them to do so peacefully and in consultation with community elders.

Chief Amechi, who also holds the titles Ajuwa of Aboh Kingdom and Onwa of Ndemili-Umusadege, called on the Federal Government to urgently address the electricity crisis in Ndokwaland, a region hosting several major oil and gas companies.

He said, “My dearly beloved people of Ndokwa Nation, I greet you all with love, respect, and the unshakable bond of brotherhood that binds us. I am one of you—born of this soil, molded by its strength, and driven by deep love for our shared destiny.

“For too long, we have lived in darkness. Your agitations are not misplaced. Your voices are not noise, they are echoes of decades of pain. I hear you. We hear you. And I will not stand aside or remain silent.

“Let us not burn the bridge we must walk to reach freedom. Real progress is achieved through unity, dialogue, and strategic advocacy. The administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is listening—not just with ears but with action.

“There is a need to align with our elders and listen to their voices of wisdom. A poorly organized protest could lead to anarchy and worsen the security situation. Let us be cautious while our leaders engage the government on resolving the crisis,” he advised.

He cited the recent award of critical road projects in Ndokwa as part of a new commitment to address the region’s long-standing neglect.

“It’s a beginning—not perfection—but a genuine step toward healing past wounds and building a better future.”

The Special Adviser urged the youth to form advocacy committees and engage stakeholders with facts and purpose.
