The Delta State Government has urged all eligible citizens, particularly those aged 18 years and above, to take part in the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The nationwide In-Person registration will officially begin today, with centres open across Delta State’s 25 local government areas.
The appeal was issued in a statement by the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau of Communication and Orientation, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, emphasized that voter registration is both a civic duty and a constitutional responsibility.
According to him, obtaining a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) empowers citizens to freely choose their leaders during elections.
INEC has confirmed that the exercise will run weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at its local government offices. The process caters to two categories: fresh registrants opting for In-Person registration, and individuals who began online pre-registration and need to complete biometric capture at designated centres. Both options will run concurrently throughout the exercise.
To boost turnout, the Bureau announced plans for a statewide sensitization campaign across markets, schools, motor parks, and other public spaces within Delta’s three senatorial districts. The campaign will also be amplified through mass media platforms. Authorities reiterated that the exercise is free of charge.
The government further appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, student unions, market associations, elected officials, and political appointees to mobilize and assist their communities in registering.
“This exercise presents another opportunity for first-time voters and those yet to obtain their PVC to do so ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement read.
Delta State assured citizens of its support in ensuring maximum participation, describing the CVR as vital to strengthening democracy and upholding the people’s right to vote
