Delta govt commences promotion interview for civil servants

Delta State government has announced the commencement of the promotion interview for civil servants from December 2 and is expected to end on December 12.

The affected officers are on salary grade level 12 to 16 and are due for promotion in January and July 2025 respectively.

The move is aimed at mitigating the delays in promotion, which have been a source of concern both to the government and many civil servants.

Report from Asaba said the interview panel is being chaired by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko even as officers who came for the exercise on Monday expressed their joy and appreciation for the early interview, describing it as a proactive step towards addressing the accumulation of promotion arrears.

They commended the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his efforts in improving the working conditions of workers in the state, just as they also praised the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, for aligning himself with the governor’s MORE agenda, which prioritizes the welfare of workers.

One of the respondents Mr. Augustine Itawansa, a Deputy Director, expected to be promoted to Salary Grade level 17, urged the government to sustain this development by organizing promotion interviews in November or December annually as presently done.

According to the officer, the exercise was seamless saying that it would help reduce the issue of accumulated arrears to its barest minimum.
