Delta govt committed to constructing durable, long-lasting roads – Izeze

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to constructing durable, long-lasting roads, despite rising material costs.

Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, emphasized during the “Journalists Hangout” in Asaba that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is focused on delivering quality infrastructure, deterring shortcuts in construction.

Izeze noted that the state has revised its design and supervision strategies to ensure roads last a minimum of 20 years, with strict adherence to the Bills of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME). Contractors must meet these standards, and no road project will proceed without proper inspection.

Highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts, Izeze mentioned completed projects like the Okpanam-Ibusa bypass and the Ohoror-Bomadi bridge, as well as the ongoing infrastructure revamp in Warri and inherited projects such as the Kwale-Beneku and Egbo-Ideh Ayakoromo bridges.

The state is also addressing federal roads when necessary to protect residents’ safety.

The Commissioner assured that Governor Oborevwori is committed to leaving behind legacy roads that will serve Deltans for generations.
