In a decisive move to strengthen transparency and accountability in the public sector, the Delta State Government has successfully concluded a comprehensive staff verification exercise across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The exercise, initiated under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is part of ongoing reforms designed to restore integrity and efficiency within the state’s civil service.
According to official findings, a total of 493 officers were identified with irregular employment records. These include instances of age falsification, document forgery, and extended absenteeism issues that have long undermined productivity and trust in the public workforce.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, emphasized that the verification process was conducted with strict adherence to due process, reflecting the administration’s commitment to good governance under the MORE Agenda. He noted that the government’s objective was not to witch-hunt or punish workers, but to sanitize the system and ensure that only genuine and dedicated staff are retained.
Aniagwu further explained that the exercise would pave the way for improved personnel management, accurate payroll data, and a more transparent service structure. By identifying and addressing irregularities, the state government seeks to safeguard public resources while creating a fair environment that recognizes the contributions of diligent employees.
He reaffirmed that Governor Oborevwori’s administration remains focused on fostering discipline, professionalism, and institutional credibility in the civil service key pillars necessary for effective service delivery and sustainable development across Delta State.
The verification outcome, officials say, will guide subsequent policy actions aimed at strengthening efficiency and rebuilding public confidence in the state bureaucracy.
