In a bid to enhance the quality of education and advance the development goals of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, the Education Consultant to the Delta State Government, Prof. Hope Eghagha, has embarked on a Needs Assessment Tour of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara.
The visit is part of a broader statewide initiative to evaluate the infrastructural and academic requirements of tertiary institutions across Delta State.
During the one-day official visit, Prof. Eghagha explained that the purpose of his tour was to carry out an on-the-ground assessment, following the directive of the governor, to ensure that the state’s educational interventions are well-targeted and effective. He highlighted the governor’s interest in fully understanding the unique challenges confronting each institution.
“I am here today to assess what this institution needs to grow and develop,” Prof. Eghagha said. “His Excellency wants an accurate picture of the realities on the ground, and my role is to engage with management, staff, and students to gather insights for a detailed report. This exercise covers all state-owned institutions to ensure fairness and inclusivity.”
The education consultant stressed that the visit is fact-finding in nature, not evaluative. “I am here to listen, not to judge,” he stated. “Following this visit, I will compile a comprehensive report for the governor, outlining the institution’s key needs. We understand that different institutions face different challenges, and our approach will be to address them systematically, one after the other.”
Prof. Hope Eghagha lauded the Delta State Government for its significant investments in the education sector, highlighting Delta as “a state with the highest number of tertiary institutions in the country.” He added that the state’s achievements would be included in his recommendations aimed at further strengthening educational development.
In response, the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a positive and encouraging step toward the institution’s growth. “We greatly appreciate Prof. Eghagha’s visit, which signals promising developments ahead,” the Rector said. “His engagement with management and staff was very constructive, and we are optimistic that it will result in meaningful interventions for the Polytechnic.”
The event was also attended by Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, principal officers of the institution, and other key stakeholders. During the interactive session, Prof. Eghagha assured participants that the government would give serious consideration to the various requests and concerns raised, reiterating that education remains a top priority for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
