Delta State Government has commenced an investigative inquiry into alleged land grabbing by the traditional ruler of Owa Kingdom, Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor.
This followed an earlier planned protest led by the Owa-Oyibu Development Initiative, but was later soft-pedalled following an appeal by the leadership of the State House of Assembly.
Chief Edwin Uzor, Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, met with the affected persons and urged them to remain calm while the government look into the matter.
Over 100 indigenes of Owa Kingdom turned up to present testimonies, mostly from women and widows claiming their lands had been seized unjustly. Their accounts were recorded as part of the fact-finding effort.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Owa-Oyibu Development Initiative, Hon. Benson Nkeki, stated that the meeting was in cognizance to the alleged land grabbing by the monarch.
Nkeki assured that following the intervention by the state government vis-a-vis the ongoing investigative inquiry into the allegation, the group is committed to giving the state government the benefits of the doubts.
