Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has called on the West African Examinations Council, WAEC to improve its logistics and ensure the timely distribution of examination materials across the state.
The Commissioner’s remarks was in response to a troubling video circulating on social media, which shows students of Unity Model Secondary School, Asaba, writing their examination under torchlight due to the late arrival of question papers on Wednesday, May 22, 2025.
Ezewu emphasized that while WAEC is an independent examination body, the welfare of students in Delta State remains a top priority for the state government.
She clarified that although the state has no control over the conduct of WAEC examinations, it has a duty to advocate for the well-being of its students.
According to her, the physics examination papers arrived at Unity Model Secondary School nearly four hours behind schedule.
