The Delta State Government has approved the launch of the second phase of the Tertiary Entrepreneurship Programme (TEP), an initiative designed to empower students with funding, training, and other forms of support to help them develop and grow their business ideas.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakirionwei, announced this during a sensitization session with students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.
He explained that the approval reflects the state government’s continued commitment to equipping young people with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed. The programme, he noted, targets students with outstanding entrepreneurial ideas those who show creativity, problem-solving ability, and strong potential for social impact but lack the financial resources to bring their concepts to life.
“With this approval,” he said, “I want to assure you that the Ministry of Youth Development is fully prepared to begin implementation immediately. All structures, processes, and partnerships needed to make this cycle even more successful than the last have already been put in place.” He added that the online application portal would open soon and urged interested students to get their documents and proposals ready for smooth submission.
The Commissioner further explained that applicants must be registered students of tertiary institutions in Delta State and must present innovative, realistic business ideas with clear social and economic value. Successful candidates will receive training, mentorship, and ongoing monitoring to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills.
He encouraged students to seize the opportunity and think boldly about ideas that could contribute to the economic growth of the state. He also appreciated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his continued support of the programme and thanked partners, stakeholders, and students for backing the government’s efforts to empower young people.
