Delta govt says it will not tolerate fraudulent CSOs, NGOs

The Delta State government has deplored corrupt practices by civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Delta State.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Civil Societies and NGOs, Mr. Victor Ojei, who disclosed this on Saturday in Asaba, said the state government had put measures in place to monitor their activities.

He stated, “We are aware that there is corruption in the system and the government of Sheriff Oborevwori is out to monitor the activities of these CSOs and NGOs for better service delivery in the state.

He said a portal for CSOs and NGOs had been created for better operations, regretting that a lot of these organizations were defrauding the state.

“We will not tolerate this kind of act in the state, hence we are putting structure on ground to publish NGOs, CSOs and community-based organizations (CBOs) that have been verified by the state.”

“We are currently creating a portal in Delta State; myself, the executive assistant to the governor on new media, Mr. Felix Ofuo; and the senior special assistant to the governor on ICT/Webmaster, so that we can publish accredited CSOs and NGOs that have been verified.

“This is because a lot of people or organizations float NGOs and CSOs and are using them to extort or defraud people and even the government. We will not tolerate such in Delta State under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”
