Delta govt to tackle shortage of medical doctors, promises more welfare package

The Delta State Government has assured Deltans that the shortage of doctors in the State-owned hospitals would be a thing of the past through more focus on their welfare and the employment of more doctors.

The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme made this known in his office on Monday during the courtesy visit by the State Executive, National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), Delta State Branch.

He assured the members of NAGGMDP of the Delta State government’s readiness to do all within its capacity to ensure the work environment is conducive for them to practice their profession in the State. He urged them to reciprocate the government’s gesture by applying themselves to their duties.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Ogbo James, commended the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the appointment of Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, a capable doctor with the capacity to pilot the affairs of healthcare and knowledge of the inner workings of the system as Commissioner for Health.

He stated that within a few months as the Health Commissioner, Dr. Onojaeme had taken far-reaching decisions that would benefit the health sector such as the provision of House Officers for the Central hospitals which has been a rarity in recent times, the welfare and distribution of corps members in the health care sector and also ensured effective distribution of this workforce among others.

Dr. Ogbo assured the Commissioner of his association’s unwavering support for Rt. Hon. Oborevwori’s administration with a view to realizing its health policy goals and programmes for the health benefit of Deltans and residents alike.
