Delta Govt Trains Civil Servants with Modern Data Analysis Tools

The Delta State Ministry of Economic Planning, in collaboration with Universal Investment and Development Company Limited (UIDC), has launched a three-day intensive workshop on Data Analysis and Visualization for selected civil servants. The goal is to strengthen planning, decision-making, and service delivery through digital transformation.

The training, which kicked off on Thursday at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, is focused on equipping participants with modern data analysis tools and visualization techniques to support evidence-based governance.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, the Ministry’s Director of Statistics, Ms. Nkechi Maduemezia, officially opened the workshop. She emphasized that data has become “the new oil” powering strategic development and smarter decision-making in today’s world.

Maduemezia, a member of both the Computer Professionals of Nigeria and the Nigerian Statistical Association, encouraged participants to stay focused and actively participate in the sessions. She highlighted that gaining expertise in data technology would help civil servants become more proactive and effective in contributing to policy development.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Corporate Strategy and Planning, Dr. Timothy Igbinosa represented by UIDC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Godwin Mukoro explained that the workshop was organized to bridge the gap between conventional administrative methods and modern global standards in data analytics.

Mukoro categorized civil servants into three groups: those with limited digital skills, those who are familiar with digital tools but don’t use them, and a small number who use them effectively. He urged participants to “think outside the box, break away from old templates, and lead innovation” in how public services are delivered.

Also speaking at the event, capital market consultant Mr. Gbe Lewis reaffirmed UIDC’s commitment to partnering with the Delta State Government by providing ongoing training and investing in human capital development.

He praised the Ministry of Economic Planning for its forward-thinking leadership in advancing data-driven governance and expressed confidence that the training would enhance the analytical and decision-making skills of civil servants across the state.

The three-day workshop includes practical sessions focused on data handling, analysis, and visualization tools, with the goal of equipping participants to contribute more effectively to policy development and planning through reliable, evidence-based data management.
