The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Delta State Government, has announced a three-day training workshop aimed at improving data management within the state’s basic education sector.
In a statement by SUBEB Chairman, Hon. Samuel Mariere, the board explained that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade data systems and enhance educational planning through the use of modern digital tools.
The workshop will centre on the Basic Education Management Information System (BEMIS) App, a digital platform developed by Delta SUBEB based on insights gathered from the ongoing 2024/2025 Annual School Census in public primary schools.
With the theme “Current Trends in Data Capture, Entry, Analysis and Reporting,” the training is designed for Education Management Information System (EMIS) officers from Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), Curriculum Implementation and Evaluation (CIE) units, the State Ministry of Basic Education, and SUBEB headquarters.
Participants will be drawn from all 25 local government areas, ensuring that the knowledge gained is widely shared across the state’s education system.
Mariere noted that the programme is intended to equip officers with essential skills to improve both teamwork and independent performance, ultimately ensuring that data used for planning and policymaking is timely, accurate, and reliable.
He stressed that high-quality data is key to sound decision-making in education, adding that the training reflects the state’s continued commitment to evidence-based governance.
The statement added that the residential workshop will take place from April 1 to April 3, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. each day, at Gares Place Hotel along Ughelli/Patani Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
