The Delta State Government has called on all adults aged 18 and above to participate in a mandatory hypertension and diabetes screening exercise, scheduled to take place across the state from October 28 to November 3, 2024.
This initiative aligns with the Federal Ministry of Health’s directive to all State Ministries of Health in Nigeria under the Project 10 Million campaign, themed “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers.”
Delta State is tasked with screening all adults to determine their health status regarding hypertension and diabetes.
Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, announced on Sunday that the Bureau has launched an intensive media awareness campaign throughout Delta State.
The campaign includes radio jingles, talk shows, and other sensitization efforts aimed at encouraging adult residents to undergo the free screening.
The screenings will be conducted by officials from the Delta State Ministry of Health at designated centers across the state’s three senatorial districts and 25 local government areas.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized that this initiative serves all Deltans, regardless of political affiliation, religion, or ethnicity.
Oghenesivbe highlighted the importance of participation, noting the high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes globally, with diabetes affecting approximately 422 million adults worldwide.
The designated screening locations include the Delta State Secretariat along Mariam Babaginda Way in Asaba, all state government hospitals, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba Specialist Hospital, Government House Clinic, Police Clinic, SSG’s Office, Head of Service Office, and all higher learning institutions across Delta State.
Screenings will also be held at churches, mosques, markets, prisons, public health centers, and Local Government Council Secretariats across the state.
“All adults aged 18 and above are strongly encouraged to visit their nearest screening center for this important health exercise,” Oghenesivbe stated.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori deeply concerned about the well-being of all Deltans, has directed that the screening be provided free of charge, with costs fully covered by the government.
The Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, along with Delta State Ministry of Health officials, will be stationed at all designated centers to conduct the screenings daily from October 28 to November 3, 2024.
