The people of Ojobo Federated Community, a host to multinational oil companies in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, over the weekend inaugurated a new leadership to oversee the community’s affairs for the next two years.
At a ceremony held in the community square, the oldest man in Ojobo, Pa Feyenaghan Ayeigha, administered the oath of office to the newly elected Amanana-owei (traditional ruler), Chief Sunday Cupson. During the event, Pa Ayeigha announced an extension of the community’s leadership tenure from one to two years for administrative convenience, a declaration also affirmed by Chief Cupson.
In turn, Chief Cupson administered the oath of office to the new community chairman, Prince Doubra Baro, along with 19 executive members.
In his inaugural address, Prince Baro expressed gratitude to the community for the trust placed in him, promising to promote unity, peace, and progress throughout his tenure.
“I am so glad that the people of Ojobo, in unity, elected me to oversee community affairs for the next two years. I assure them that I will work for the progress, unity, and growth of our land,” he said.
“Ojobo is a blessed community. My priorities are clear—anything that will benefit the collective advancement of our people, I will pursue. Anything that will bring retrogression will be rejected. The ‘Ebi-Ojobo’ that is said to have gone into the forest is the one I want to bring back to town.”
He also pledged to maintain peace and foster a good working relationship with multinational oil companies operating in the area, particularly Renaissance Africa Energy Limited.
On infrastructure, the new leadership called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to revisit the Torugbene-Ojobo axis of the Tuomo-Ogbobagbene-Tamigbe-Torugbene-Ojobo road project.
It was listed in the state’s 2025 budget but was later removed without explanation. We appeal to Governor Oborevwori to revisit and expedite work on this vital project, as it would ease movement and spur economic growth in the Bolou-Toru Creek region.”
The event marked a significant step for the Ojobo community as it seeks to strengthen leadership, foster peace, and advance its socio-economic development.
