The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Hon. (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata, has announced a remarkable achievement in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the 2024 fiscal year, recording a 143.05% performance.
In a statement made available to journalists, he disclosed that the Service surpassed its IGR target of ₦110.3 billion by generating a historic sum of ₦157.8 billion, an achievement he described as unprecedented in the history of Delta State.
Hon. Ighrakpata highlighted that the 2024 revenue exceeded the ₦114.1 billion collected in 2023, underscoring the steady growth in the state’s revenue performance.
While celebrating the milestone, he reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to sustaining and improving on the impressive record, despite the challenges faced. He noted that the 2025 fiscal year would focus on the informal sector and high-net-worth individuals to further enhance revenue generation.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Ighrakpata commended the governor’s landmark projects and peace-building efforts, which he said have created a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and improved voluntary tax compliance among citizens.
He also extended appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioners of Finance and Economic Planning, and the IRS staff for their dedication and support, which were instrumental in achieving the outstanding results.
Hon. Ighrakpata further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including federal and state government ministries, security agencies, banks, traditional institutions, and private sector players, for their partnership and commitment to tax compliance.
“This is indeed an important part of our success story,” he stated, expressing optimism that these partnerships would continue to drive the Service’s mandate of funding people-oriented projects under the M.O.R.E. agenda of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
As the Service celebrates its record-breaking performance, the IRS Chairman reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing revenue mobilization to ensure the state remains economically vibrant and sustainable. “This achievement demonstrates our ability to effectively mobilize revenue and contribute to Delta State’s development. We remain resolute in our efforts to improve revenue generation for the benefit of all Deltans,” Hon. Ighrakpata concluded.
