The Delta State House of Assembly has taken a significant step toward strengthening digital security with the successful first reading of the Delta State Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Bill, 2025.
The proposed legislation aims to establish a comprehensive legal framework to prohibit, prevent, detect, respond to, investigate, and prosecute cyber-related offences across the state.
The bill was introduced during plenary by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi of Aniocha North Constituency. His motion received firm backing from Hon. Edafe Emakpor, representing Uvwie Constituency, underscoring broad legislative support for tackling the growing threat of cybercrime.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor commended the initiative and formally scheduled the second reading of the bill for December 4, 2025. The debate is expected to broaden discussions on digital safety, enforcement structures, and alignment with national cybercrime regulations.
If passed into law, the bill will provide Delta State with one of its most robust policy tools to combat online fraud, identity theft, data breaches, and emerging digital offences, while empowering relevant agencies to enforce modern cybersecurity measures.
The legislation marks a proactive push by the Assembly to safeguard residents, businesses, and public institutions in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
