Delta LG election: LP wants tribunal to cancel polls

Delta LG election: LP wants tribunal to cancel polls

Not satisfied with the result of the recently concluded council polls in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Labour Party (LP), in the state has called for cancellation.

The party has filed a petition at the Delta State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, citing “substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act” as the basis for its petition.

The party faulted the election results, which saw DSIEC declare Jude Chukwunweike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the duly elected winner.

In its petition, LP named DSIEC, Jude Chukwunweike, and PDP as the first, second, and third respondents, respectively.

According to LP: “We argue that the election did not occur in nearly all DSIEC wards in Aniocha South, leaving thousands of eligible voters unable to exercise their franchise due to the absence of voting materials at their units.”

Additionally, LP alleged: “None of our agents signed the purported result sheets that DSIEC allegedly falsified to declare the PDP candidate as the winner [which] ‘s an action that violates electoral laws.”
