Chairman of the Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mr Benjamin Igho, has assured of intending local government pensioners and retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme that it does not collect monies to process retirement documents.
Mr Igho gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ engagement and sensitisation visit to Local Government workers and retirees in Sapele Local Government Area.
Addressing Local Government employees and retirees in Sapele Local Government Area, during the visit, the Chairman of the Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mr Benjamin Igho said the sensitisation campaign was designed to bridge communication gaps and promote a clearer understanding of the Contributory Pension Scheme among key stakeholders, including council officials, education authorities, and primary school teachers.
Mr Igho, represented by the Director of the Bureau, Mr Peter Aboh, explained that it is important for the Government employees at the Council to know that they are enrolled in the scheme and be abreast of its operations.
He said since September 2024, the Bureau has paid all outstanding pensions covering 11,425 Council retirees and those in the Local Education Authorities, while payment for those from October 2024 to April 2025 is in process.
Mr Igho commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his proactive leadership and consistent support towards ensuring regular payment of pensions and gratuities, describing it as a strong demonstration of the administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare.
The Chairman of the Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mr Benjamin Igho, however, warned intending retirees and pensioners against paying anyone to help process their retirement documents, saying the Bureau does not collect any money for anyone.
He assured that the Bureau would sustain its sensitisation visits to all 25 local government areas in Delta State to ensure that every stakeholder is properly informed and guided in the management of pension matters.
Responding, an official of Sapele Local Government commended the Bureau for its operational excellence and its efforts in ensuring that pension and gratuity payments are up to date.
He described the exercise as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to the well-being of local government workers and retirees.
The sensitization event also featured presentations from Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) and Insurance and Assurance Companies, who explained their roles in the management of pension assets and annuity services for retirees.
The Bureau of Local Government Pensions reiterated that the ongoing sensitisation visits will continue across other local government areas in Delta State to deepen awareness, promote accountability, and strengthen confidence in the Contributory Pension Scheme for local government workers.
Early top officials of the Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions had earlier visited the Chairman of Sapele Local Government, Chief Bright Abeke to thank him and solicit his continued support for retirees under him.
